Es Devlin burns this same toy theatre to illustrate the ephemerality of set design, at the end of the her episode of Netflix’s "Abstract: The Art of Design."

Known in Victorian times as Juvenile Drama, toy theatres were originally made as souvenirs of live theatre, creating an ideal home entertainment. The Pollock’s Toy Theatre has inspired generations and long been a part of Britain’s theatrical heritage.

This theatre is complete with characters, scenery, and a script to stage the classic tale of Cinderella. No cutting or gluing is required; the die-cut cardstock pieces simply pop out and slot together.

is in Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection.
