From a limited run of 100, this church fan is one of the “speculative objects” placed amongst dried tobacco leaves in Curry J. Hackett’s immersive installation
So That You All Won’t Forget: Speculations on a Black Home in Rural Virginia, on view in Making Home—Smithsonian Design Triennial. The fictional scene depicted is inspired by his late grandparents’ member church: Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, a historically Black church founded in Prospect, Virginia in 1867.
The back side of the fan features text describing the project's meaning and process, and the edition number.
