Marianne Brandt was a German painter, sculptor, photographer, and designer who studied at the Bauhaus art school in Weimar and later became head, and the only woman to have worked in, the Bauhaus Metall-Werkstatt (Metal Workshop) in Dessau in 1927. Today, Brandt's designs for household objects are considered timeless examples of modern industrial design. This 90040 Tall Basket was designed in 1928, an excellent example of an archetype in the search for simplicity in the industrial process of spinning and pressing metals.
