One of a kind assemblage sculptures, hand-crafted from primary and secondary colors of ocean-born plastic debris, contained in a snowglobe. Each globe is unique and may not appear exactly as photographed.

This limited edition snow globe is the result of a collaboration between CoolSnowGlobes, based in Vermont, and One Beach Plastic, based in Northern California. Both companies were founded by couples who live and work together as artists, yet they have never met. Inspired by Nature—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial., the partnership created a series of one-of-a-kind water globes exploring design’s ability to address critical issues surrounding nature, climate and the environment.

Since their inception, CoolSnowGlobes has reinvented the traditional snow globe. Founders Liz Ross and David Westby have garnered worldwide recognition for their unique approach to concepts, materials, and techniques. The company also distinguishes itself by presenting their globes on a simple square base focusing the viewer’s experience on the tiny worlds within. Art object, a soothing source of stillness, or a storm warning of delight: the secret of CoolSnowGlobes is in the eye of the (be)holder.

Since 1999 Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang have been visiting 1000 yards of Kehoe Beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore. They have rambled this one remote beach hundreds of times to gather plastic debris washing out of the Pacific Ocean. By carefully collecting and "curating" the bits of plastic, they fashion them into works of art—art that matter-of-factly shows, with minimal artifice, the material as it is. The viewer is often surprised that this colorful stuff is the thermoplastic junk of our throwaway culture. Like archeologists, each bit of what they find opens into a pinpoint look at the whole of human culture. Each piece has a story to tell.

Through their shared vision, in these silent worlds, CoolSnowGlobes and One Beach Plastic have come together to bring you the marvel you hold in your hands.
