The Bananatex® Hip Pouch is a small bag for holding essentials with adjustable hip and shoulder carry options. Made with 100% banana fibers. Two inner compartments allow for the safe storage of small items. Its main compartment fastens with a YKK® metal zipper with cotton tape, and the Hip Pouch’s water-resistant finish is complemented by vegetable-tanned leather trims.
In their quest for sustainable fabric solutions, Swiss brand QWSTION decided to develop something new. Over three years and many iterations, they perfected Bananatex®, a waterproof fabric made from 100% natural Banana fibers, as an open source project so other brands can use it. QWSTION searched, and found “Abacá,” a plant in the banana family. Not only is it sturdy and self-sufficient, it is cultivated within a natural ecosystem of sustainable mixed agriculture and forestry. The stalks are shredded, then turned into a tear resistant paper. In strips, the paper is twisted into yarn. Finally, the paper-yarn is woven into fabric. Highly efficient patterns yield beautiful accessories and little waste.
