Frank Gehry is an architect known for his sculptural approach to building design, best known for building curvaceous structures often covered with reflective metal. He designed the Pito Water Kettle for Alessi in 1988.
The kettle's body is made of 18/10 mirror polished stainless steel and has a cylindrical shape similar to that of a wave. The handle and the melodic top, mimicking a whale’s song, are made of mahogany and look like two fishes darting out of the water, an expression of the fascination that Gehry has had for fishes since childhood.
Frank Gehry is the recipient of the 2000 National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement.
