Minim is a deck of regulation playing cards that considers how much design you can take away while still maintaining a playable deck. Designed by Joe Doucet, the playing cards feature simple geometric symbols that are reductive versions of hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades. While it is necessary to mark the backs of regulation cards, it's done so with minimal diagonal lines instead of the typical ornamental graphics.
Joe Doucet is the founder and creative director of Joe Doucet Studio, a New York and London based firm that works across a spectrum of categories. A 1999 graduate of the Art Center College of Design, he believes that “everything communicates.” His work hybridizes function and visual appeal while conveying layers of meaning and message.
Joe Doucet is the winner of the 2017 National Design Award for Product Design.
