This cabinet is from Finnish designer Tuomas Markunpoika's Engineering Temporality series. The piece was designed as a meditation on memory loss and as a tribute to his grandmother who suffered Alzheimer's disease. Markunpoika wrapped tubular steel rings around a traditional wooden cabinet, and once completed, burned the cabinet away. All that remained was the ghost of its former self.
This piece was featured in Cooper Hewitt's 2016 contemporary design Triennial, Beauty.
