Originally created in 1939 by Russell Wright, American Modern™ is this country's original, and most popular entry in the modern style of dinnerware. It has recently been re-released by the Bauer Pottery company under the guidance of the Russel Wright Design Center. The initial line consists of the most popular original pieces including serving platters and serving bowls, dishes, bowls, tea sets, and coffee mug. The mix-and-match colors have been carefully matched to the original colors chosen by Russel Wright for their food presentation, drama, and bold modern flair. The fruit bowl is an iconic piece of mid-century modern design.
There is something innately pleasing about the bowl’s simple, organic shape. The curvilinear design beckons you to cradle it. It is both soft and soothing yet bold and daring. As a bowl or display vessel, it is as relevant today as it was in the 1940s.
