Designed by Richard Sapper in 1983, the 9091 Kettle was Alessi's first multi-sensorial object for the kitchen. Inspired by Sapper's childhood remembrance of poetic boat sirens on River Rhine, its design features two brass whistles whose pipes sing 'mi' and 'si' notes when the steam blows through them, giving a particularly attractive melody. The whistle part can be lifted off the spout with the mechanism located under the handle. The kettle has a 2-liter capacity and a magnetic steel heat diffusing bottom.
