The Bananatex® Roll Pack is based on the concept of a versatile container that can adapt to its content due to a flexible roll-top closure. A large, expandable main body contains multiple inner compartments, including a Merino felt-lined sleeve that fits up to 15“ MacBook Pro®. A YKK® metal zipper with unique cotton- instead of the usual plastic tape allows direct access to the main compartment via side entry, and the layout of small interior pockets is arranged to give frequently used items a practical spot. Adjustable backpack straps and a modular handle provide versatile carrying options.
In their quest for sustainable fabric solutions, Swiss brand QWSTION decided to develop something new. Over three years and many iterations, they perfected Bananatex®, a waterproof fabric made from 100% natural Banana fibers, as an open-source project so other brands can use it. QWSTION searched and found “Abacá,” a plant in the banana family. Not only is it sturdy and self-sufficient, it is cultivated within a natural ecosystem of sustainable mixed agriculture and forestry. The stalks are shredded, then turned into a tear-resistant paper. In strips, the paper is twisted into yarn. Finally, the paper-yarn is woven into fabric. Highly efficient patterns yield beautiful accessories and little waste.
