After intensive research and experimentation, designers Nadine Sterk and Lonny Ryswyck of Atelier NL melted local 'wild' sand dug from the Zandmotor, into unique objects of glass. The collection is called 'ZandGlas'. Each piece is made from fused sand, forming magnificent glassware. These are tangible objects made from sand.

The beautifully crafted glassware tells a stunning narrative about the origins of the Netherlands and the sea, currents, winds, rivers, time and mankind. For this second edition of ZandGlas, Atelier NL focused on the rust-brown sands of Savelsbos, a geological monument that hails from prehistory. Visitors to the forest can easily see the natural features above the ground, but the beauty of what is underneath is not readily visible. The forest is famous for its very steep, often eroding slopes of clearly layered structures of soil.

ZandGlas is featured in 2019 exhibition Nature—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.
