This Art Deco dressing table and bench was retailed by department store Lord & Taylor. Art Deco, or "French modern" as the style was called in New York at the time, was enthusiastically promoted by the New York's leading department stores. The style was known for its bold colors, strong lines, and overall modern appearance. This red-orange-lacquered suite features a color, sometimes known as “Chinese red,” that helped popularize this American variant of a French design in mixed woods by Léon Jallot.
This piece was featured in the exhibition The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.
