The Lightscape collection by Ruth Gurvich (Argentinean, 1961-) is a collection of porcelain serving bowls and vases. Made to look like the most delicate of paper, down to the fiber structure, it remains unglazed and unpainted on the outside to capture the texture and feel of a paper model. The finely glazed inside creates a beautiful juxtaposition.

Started by Elector Max III Joseph of the royal Bavarian Wittelsbach family on November 1, 1747, Nymphenburg is one of the only porcelain manufactures that continues to produces each object truly by hand. The factory uses power generated by the streams running through the historic grounds of the factory and produces its own secret recipe of paste made of kaolin, feldspar and quartz to produce exquisite and extremely pure, hard porcelain. All products are hand-painted by master painters. Nymphenburg’s paint laboratory which holds original secret formulas for approximately 15,000 different colors and hues.

Ruth Gurvich initially studied architecture but then switched to art, continuing her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She established a reputation with her three-dimensional works made of paper, which pursue a delicate, wholly distinctive aesthetic, clearly evident in the Lightscape vase. As a working material, paper enables her to introduce light, movement and vitality into things.
