During Carl Auböck II’s long tenure at the Werkstätte Auböck, he designed a staggering 6,000 original objects and pieces of furniture. But it was the small brass curios he made that turned him in to an international design cult hero. Effortlessly combining traditional Werner Bronzen with Bauhaus Style, the Werkstätte Auböck still makes these handcrafted brass accessories as keychains.

After two years of study at the Bauhaus School under Johannes Itten, CARL AUBÖCK returned to Vienna to take over his father’s workshop. Carl Auböck chose to work with brass, leather, horn and wood, rather than embrace the less compelling chromes and enamels favored by many of his contemporaries. This distinctive style made Auböck beloved of contemporaries such as Walter Gropius, Richard Neutra, and Charles Eames. During the 1940s he began to collaborate with his son Carl Auböck III, and in 1954, at the Triennale di Milano, the Werkstätte Carl Auböck was awarded four gold medals. Today, the Werkstätte Carl Auböck is one of the last of its kind, run by Carl Auböck IV; they continue to produce pieces that combine modern forms with high quality craftsmanship.
